Belgium Beer Week – what’s on 23 August

The second edition Belgium Beer Week kicks of 23 August filled with pizza and cheese pairings, beer cocktails, music jams, a tour of lambic and craft brewers, and tap takeovers. Not bad for the first day for a weeklong celebration of Belgium’s beer culture!

This year Belgium Beer Week features 61 participants in Antwerp, Brussels, Ghent, Liege, Bruges, Namur, Leuven and other places across Belgium. Check out the calendar for your daily dose.

Here is the schedule for 23 August:

In Antwerp Station 1280 is hosting an open bottle day. You can taste beer, wine and cider by the glass from Antidoot, Bofkont, Drap, Pellicle Vergistingen and Vermeersch. Head on over to Billies Bier Kafetaria, which is doing an Antwerp tap takeover featuring Malcroys Brewing, FELIS, Galea Craft Beers and Uncharted Brew Co. Check out Papa Jos, which is hosting draft beer tastings and price reductions during the week. Muziek cafe Plansjee is launching tastings of Orval cheese with any Chouffe or Chouffe Cherry from barrel, along with other promotions.

blankIn Brussels you can enjoy a special pizza and beer pairing all day from noon onward at the Otomat locations at Oude Grannmarkt and Tervulenlaan (Etterbeek). Closer to the centre you can sing and play along with Family Brews (Brussels) as they have an open door for local musicians and singers. Take a tour of Cantillon and L’Annexe with Liselot of BeerSecret. Near Gare Centrale say cowabungaaaa! at BrewDog Brussels, which combining pinball and beer in a retro twist. They promise that those who conquer the leaderboard may be in for some free drinks on 23 and 24 August.

In Namur try the local beer l’Estamine at Café Le Chapitre, which bills itself as the “only authentic beer bar in Namur near St Aubain church”.

In Leuven visit the Beer Corner for beer cocktails, and cheese and beer pairings all week featuring Appel-Amaretto; Raspberry Delish and IPA Negroni, tastings on tap and a beer-cheese pairing with Lamme Goedzak or Dulle Griet with matured Dulle Griet.
