EBCU was formed in May 1990 in Bruges, Belgium, by CAMRA (United Kingdom), Objectieve Bierproevers (now Zythos) and PINT (Netherlands) as a consumer advocacy organisation.
The union campaigns to:
- preserve and maintain the diversity of the traditional European beer cultures
- protect the consumer from unfair pricing whether through unreasonable taxation or exploitative business practices
- ensure that consumers receive the best factual information about beer.
